Backstabbed

Image
“You've changed for the worst.” Go ahead tell me what you heard Try to come at me, make me hurt. See me at my lowest, and then desert. But I rose up from my pain Broke all my restraints And I’ve dealt with all the shame You try to make me feel. All this gossip behind my back I try to fight, then you attack From the other side With dastardly lies. And nobody seems to see My side. Nobody tries to read What they try to hide. And all the fake friends Are coming at me again We’re doing a dangerous dance And you’ve cheated, dagger in your hands. But I can rise up From all your backstabbing I can shut you up If I drown out your voice with my singing.

Dear Stevan

Image
Dear Stevan I’m tired of your prediction All the shaking and pacing Heartbreaking waiting Coming between her and me taking a stand So many tears lost in isolation  I tread softly  Since you’ve come around  Hear your name, you froze Our friendship with one single sound All I want is my best friend back You don’t deserve her And I keep filling in checks A wingless bird Falling through space cause of your hex Gingerly trying to fill in the gaps Dear Stevan You don’t know how she’d do anything To keep you from fading But you keep her waiting On your senseless berating Your malicious gleam She’s clay in your hands and you’re playing  Dear Stevan I’m done with the sound of your name The cage fighting restraints How she says that you’re perfect  But you’re toxic and wrong in poison you’re decked But I’m the one who takes the blame When it’s you who’s playing the game Dear Stevan

A Campfire Means Home

Image
Stayed the night at a KOA Remember back when we were afraid  Of the dark? Wobbly tables and marshmallows  “I can’t sleeps!” And headlamp glows Light up memories so well. The hand-me-down sleeping bags And noisy nights that seem to drag On, and on, and on. The parties next door And second hand ponds Lunches from the middle seat All these led me to believe  A campfire means home. But looking back, I wouldn’t change One single thing Worn out memories  Like a faded pillowcase

King of Hearts

Image
You had your heart up your sleeve Unknowing you took your leave Magic kiss awakened me from my sleep You used your ace but now it’s me You’re the king of hearts baby But I’m your ace of spades Digging into your heart saving Memories of ours and every forgotten faith You spend time playing hero But we both know you’ve got fears oh But it’s all good cause we balance out I’ll be your quiet, you be my sound They call that one girl your queen But let’s be honest we both know its me Ex lovers have all had their flings But baby now you can be set free cause I’m your winning trick I’m your burning wick They call you a player, call you slick But truth is, I’m the one who thought real quick To give you that extra prick It’s hard to believe you saw me With all your illusions and dysfunctioning wings But oh baby you gave me rings Shimmering hollow things. You’re the king of hearts baby But I’m your ace of spades Digging into your heart saving Memories of ours and every forgotten faith You spend
